Iv’e only had time for my bigger projects the past few weeks. Sick kids then a trip to New Orleans. Getting back into the grove now. Here is a warmup sketch of an automaton of a monk from the early 1500’s. Found the picture in a book I’m reading. Isaac Asimov and Karen Frenkel “Robots: Machines in Man’s Image”.
It was key wound. Spring-powered clockwork, allowing his head to turn and bow, moving the eyes from side to side, opens and closes it’s hinged jaw, all the while beating it’s chest with it’s right hand (wah?) while his left hand moves up and down. It rolls around and the feet evidently have some kind of motion too. I bet this thing was terrifying to behold.
